US recognises African farmer Angel Adelaja who grows fresh crops without soil

The United State has honoured a farmer who depends on less soil to produce fresh fruits and vegetable.

The mechanism helps people without land access to get food for survival-She uses mechanism known as hydroponics which does not need soil to grow crops –
United States has honoured a Nigerian national doing something extraordinary in the agricultural sector.

Angel Adelaja is the owner of Fresh Direct Nigeria, a company that is concerned with agricultural production. She uses mechanism known as hydroponics which does not need soil to grow crops.

The system also does not use ordinary water, it produces 15 times more than normal farming. Since the inception of the company in 2014, Adelaja has been helping communities without land access in crop production.

She returned to Nigeria from American with the aim of contributing to the nutrition-consciousness of Nigerians.

In Kenya a University don was awarded for her outstanding contribution to the development of the Animal Genetic Resource Characterization and Inventory and Monitoring (AnGR-CIM) tool for Africa.

Angel Adelaja launched Fresh Direct Nigeria in 2014 to provide fresh fruit, vegetables, and meats to urban communities without access to farm land. She uses a method of growing plants without soil, also known as hydroponics, coupled with old shipping containers to create stackable container farms. These farms use less water than traditional farming and produce a 15-times higher yield. Her business is environmentally-friendly, cost effective, and sustainable thanks to technology. Adelaja is a Nigerian American who returned to Nigeria to cater to the expanding class of nutrition-conscious urbanites. 

Ann Muigai was recognised for her invaluable dedication to the conservation and preservation of the indigenous genetic resources in Africa.

AnGR-CIM tool is Africa’s first comprehensive paperless data capture tool designed to provide a platform for collecting robust data across African member states on indigenous animal genetic resources.
